“Ghosts Over Western Foothills” is a piece that seeks to expose the internal process of the second generation immigrant experience. By etching the silhouettes of Philippine Bleeding Heart Pigeons into a Colorado landscape, it attempt to demonstrate how the “borrowed” memory of a place and its culture, i.e. memory obtained through family stories, books, and media, is ever present in a second generation immigrant’s current environment. Growing up in the state of Colorado and its western landscape, my Filipino heritage is faintly superimposed upon an western world, like “ghosts” unseen but present on another plane of existence.
